God Made Me An Oath, One That Transformed Me Forever – 2014

Let me start by saying what a privilege it is to know Jesus Christ through His spirit, Christ has made me a new man and has crucified the old man (my sinful nature) on a cross which bore him unbearable torment and suffering. In the book of Hebrews, chapters 6-10 reveal some deep truths of the order to which I belong. Christ didn’t come just to offer a sacrifice to amend for one of my many sins, he offered himself in place of all my sin and condemnation.

“Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.”

– Hebrews 7:22 (NIV)

An oath was made by God the Father in which he sacrificed a part of himself (Jesus his Son) so we could have an anchor for eternal hope. This oath is perfect, clearly unchanging and binds us into an eternity with him. The first order was made obsolete (old covenant) and the new order was established so a right relationship could exist between God and Man (which we so evidently stuffed up in Genesis). Christ mediated this new way, he presents us holy and blameless because the shedding of His blood, death and resurrection. The temporary dwelling place and sanctuary where the levitical priests offered sacrifices on our behalf was only copy of the true one in heaven. When Christ offered himself for full atonement it embodied the culmination of the ages to do away with sin, one man took a timeless stand bridging the gap we created.

My prayer coming into 2014 knowing the wonderful news of Christ;

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

– Hebrews 10:19-25 (NIV)

Many 2014 bring joy, hope and salvation. Blessings, Daniel.

Light Sparks

Christian Living – ‘The New Way’ (The Veil)

A new era was established when were freed from law, condemnation and suffering. Jesus did something very unique that no other prophet, person or power had never done before.. He died for a divine purpose and that purpose came at a massive cost, the ultimate sacrifice had to be made. Jesus defeated everything and fulfilled the law (through his death and resurrection) he became the life giving bread that could be consumed for eternal salvation.

Over the last few blogs I have depicted Christ as a living fragrance and a letter that unfolds through our lives, today I noticed one thing that gets in the way of people seeing Christ. The following verses speak of a ‘veil’ that exists over people because of Satan. If this insight helps us to understand the default nature of man, can we not counteract this blockage with the power of the spirit?

“But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. 15 Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.” – 2 Corinthians 3:14-15

“If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” – 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

It’s quite clear that some people will reject Christ and some will come to know Him, ultimately it’s a decision that everyone must make either by choice or death. I hope today we are reminded of the spiritual powers that we are at war with and we rely on Gods strength, not our own, to overcome these ‘veils ‘of deceit and lies of the world. If Christ has taken up residence in your life, be bold and rely on Jesus who lives in You, because we know that Christ is far greater than anything in this world.

Greatest Lie

Christian Living – ‘The New Way’ (A Letter)

“The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.” – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3

A living letter!

When we read a letter sent from someone we love, we get excited reading the words on the paper and hang on every word as it unfolds.

As I read 1 Corinthians 2 onwards I am captivated by phrases  ‘he uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere’ and ‘Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom’. These descriptions are vivid and point me directly at Christ, his passion and  the role we have as we walk with Him. We are not mouldy, damp, dusty aging letters to be hidden in an archive or old library, but a living organism where Christs living words and life can unfold.

So how do we read the letters written in God’s Word and then bring them to life in our own lives?  Christ did all the hard work for you, we know that the spirit of Christ lives in Us and is a active agent in our lives – not passive by any means. If we acknowledge that being a vessel for Christ means walking In His spirit daily, we need to let others see this fragrance!

Simply put; it means we need to let all ‘we learn from His Word and His Spirit as he ministers to us’ be something that others see IN US.

We understand that the spirit of the Living God has written his life on our hearts, we must let others see this Glory and Truth. It’s not just a role but a duty we have.. Why hide an eternal life giving hope under a rock when we can share it for the entire world to see, let’s not prevent this love and eternal hope from shining!

“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” – Matthew 5:15

Christian Living – ‘The New Way’ (A Fragrance)

“..now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?” – 2 Corinthians 2:14-16

I love the image of Christ being ‘a sweet perfume’!

When you smell something sweet and pleasant it grabs your attention, it invigorates the senses, and fuses images of the circumstances around you to your memories. When you make a decision to live and breathe Christ everything changes! When we accept what Christ has done for us (His death and resurrection) and invite him into our lives he takes up residence In Us and actively fuses His life to ours. Our decision making, our thoughts and feelings are now influenced by a life-giving spirit that has taken refuge within.

It is your default sinful nature to adhere to the world and its ways, but today be reminded that once Christ dwells in you and you acknowledge the life-giving spirit within you will be perceived very differently by people.

“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” – 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

Christ is the New Way, the old is but a shadow.

The ‘New Covenant’ – Change the Way You Relate to God And Sin

So what is a Covenant? – An agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons to do or not do something specified, a solemn agreement or pact (Dictionary.com)

“This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God, and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbour,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

Heb 8:10-12 (Also ref prophesy in Jer 31:31-34)

I had the privilege of hearing an awesome insight, from a brother, into the ‘Agreement’ God has made with all of us and it really changed the way I walk with Christ today. God being all powerful and always present has revealed himself to us all through his Son- Jesus. The ‘manifold wisdom of God’ (Eph3:10) is to be made known through His Church (The Body Of Christ – all believers/followers of Jesus everywhere) and all this was accomplished through the blood that Christ shed on the cross! If I now exist within this ‘agreement’ made between God and Mankind, it has huge implications for the way I live here on earth as a follower of Christ.

Let’s change your walk with God, let’s now explore the ‘New Covenant’;

“I will put my laws in their minds” – Our God has placed his teachings on all our minds and revealed aHis truth, His Spirit can reveal all of this to us if we desire – Gods law is now Love!

“and write them on their hearts” – He has applied this knowledge and wisdom to our hearts so we can receive it, understand it and apply it in our lives in ‘spirit, truth and action’

“I will be there God, and they will be my people” – Wow God is stamping his ownership upon on us, how could we argue with that? We are acquired into Gods extended family because of Grace.

“Forgive their wickedness.. sins no more..” – All our Sin has gone.. In Gods eyes we are cleansed from all condemnation and sin.

It’s the Holy Spirit who prepares, shares and convicts people so they may receive His message and we are only willing vessels carrying the living God and His Truth. Today I realised that I just need to be honest to God, remember that i once was a lowly sinner and cannot achieve anything without Christ who strengthens me! In Christ we are now made presentable, a Holy priesthood acceptable in every way, our debts paid in full!

For were we not born into sin? God has given us his New Covenant (Freeing us from Sin and Death), remind yourself in prayer of this covenant He has established through His Son Jesus, and he will make your paths straight and honour your request!
