Preaching The Gospel – The Spiritual Release

This teaching talks about being effective in Gods kingdom, it has less to do with you and more to do with God working in you..

‘Many people have the wrong concept that a man believes in the gospel because he has heard the right teachings, or because he is touched in his emotion. But this is far from the truth. Those who base their acceptance of the Lord on emotional impulses will not last, nor will those who are convinced by persuasion in the mind. There is nothing wrong with using the mind and the emotion, but these things are not enough. A man is not saved through emotion and thought. A sinner falls at the Lord’s feet because the speaker’s spirit has released light through his speaking. As soon as our spirit gushes out, others are struck. This is the reason we need a released spirit to preach the gospel.

A coal miner was greatly used by the Lord in preaching the gospel. He wrote a book entitled Seen and Heard in which he described his experience with the gospel. We were deeply touched by this book. This brother was not an educated or gifted man; he was only an ordinary brother. But his absolute consecration to the Lord became the basis for the Lord to use him greatly. Do you know what was so special about him? He was a broken man. His spirit could be released easily. He started to preach at the age of twenty-three, when he first experienced salvation. In one meeting the word of a preacher kindled a burning desire within him to save souls. He asked to be allowed to speak. After he stood up, he was unable to say anything, even though his heart was burning with fire for lost souls. His tears came down like a torrent. In the end he could only utter one or two sentences. God’s Spirit filled the meeting, and everyone was convicted of his own sin and waywardness. Here was a man who, in spite of his young age, was broken in the outer man. He did not have much to say, yet his spirit was released and men were saved. He led many people to salvation during his lifetime. When we read his biography, we sense that he was a man with a released spirit.

This is the way to preach the gospel. The way to preach the gospel is to release the spirit. When the hardness of the outer man is removed and the outer man is broken, the spirit is released. If the very sight of an unsaved person compels us to do something to save him, it means that our spirit is released.

This is the basic issue. The preaching of the gospel has everything to do with the breaking of the outer man. When the outer man is broken, our spirit will be released and will touch others. It is our spirit that reaches others’ spirits. It is God’s Spirit that touches the darkened spirit of man. When this happens, a man is saved, and no reason can account for this change. However, when the outer man chokes the spirit, God does not have a way through us and the gospel will not be released. We always have to pay attention to the matter of the breaking of the outer man because all of our problems lie in the outer man.

If we, the person, are not dealt with, it is useless for us to memorize more teachings. The only thing that will bring salvation to men is for our spirit to touch others’ spirits. If our spirit touches others’ spirits, they will fall on their face before God. If our spirit is discharged in a strong way, they will have no choice but to prostrate themselves before the Lord.’

Resurrection Power & The Holy Spirit – Christ!

Some gold from Watchman Nee – Part 3

“Acts 2 shows us clearly what resurrection is. It also reveals to us what is the Holy Spirit. Resurrection rids us of the imprisonment of death. The Lord of resurrection transcends all things. What, then, is the Holy Spirit? As the Lord Jesus was raised from the dead, He was exalted by the right hand of God to be seated at God’s right hand. As he arrived at the right hand of the Father, He poured forth the Holy Spirit. And hence we can rightly say that the power of the Holy Spirit is the power of resurrection. The Lord locates resurrection and its power in the Holy Spirit who in turn brings it down to earth. Today we have no way to separate resurrection from the Holy Spirit. Whoever encounters the Holy Spirit encounters resurrection. That which was poured forth from heaven on the day of Pentecost and which the disciples saw and heard is the Holy Spirit. Why was the Holy Spirit given? To testify that the Lord has been resurrected. Does the Holy Spirit testify only in words. No, everyone who has met the Holy Spirit knows that the Lord Jesus has risen.

When the Lord was on earth some had leaned on His bosom, some had received things from His hand, some had touched the border of His garment, some had had their feet washed by Him, some had had their bodies raised by Him, and had had their eyes anointed by Him with spittle and clay. Today, though, he is risen—He is in the Spirit. The Lord whom we now may see is what those who had touched Him or were touched by Him on earth could not see. He whom we see today surpasses the One whom they saw on earth. For today we have met the Lord of resurrection. Those who knew the Lord Jesus on earth might say He advanced in wisdom and stature. They might recall how they met Him when he was only 12 years of age or when He was 30 years old. They might relate His history, who his brothers were, and who were His parents. But the Lord we now meet transcends this being “advanced in wisdom and stature”: He transcends all boundaries; even the last boundary—death—has He also transcended.

How can the church continue on for nearly two thousand years? Because there are always people who see the Lord of resurrection. For almost 20 centuries, here and there are many saints whose inner state is bright because they have seen the Lord inwardly. We acknowledge that we are not as clear towards the outward Christ as were those people who lived in the age of the Four Gospels. We do not see what they saw. We do not know, as they did, the exact appearance of the Lord in the flesh. Nevertheless, our knowledge of Him today is clearer than those people in the time of the Four Gospels. Our inner state is much brighter than theirs. We have touched the Lord inwardly.

What does the Holy Spirit do on earth today? He communicates the risen Christ to men. If anyone should say he knows the Holy Spirit but not resurrection we will answer that this is impossible. For today this Christ transcends all space, time, death, and every limitation. The Holy Spirit is that Spirit who has raised the Lord Jesus from the dead. The power of the Holy Spirit is therefore the power of resurrection. Wherever the work of the Holy Spirit is, there is the manifestation of the power of resurrection. Where the Holy Spirit is, there is resurrection.”

Ministering to a Foreigner (knowing where God wants you to be) – Acts 8

I was listening to the audio book of Acts and was moved by Philips obedience when the Angel prompted him to step out of his comfort zone and minister to a foreigner on the road to Gaza from Jerusalem.

‘Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” – Acts 8:26-29

Phillip was obedient, he listened  and responded to Gods prompting without questioning. The angel asked Phillip to do a simple task, nothing extraordinary.. just to be obedient and a willing vessel. Phillip run up to the chariot and knew what the angel wanted him to do, share the truth of Christ with the Ethiopian eunuch. The Holy Spirit had prepared the heart of the eunuch while he was reading scripture, Phillip was able to share the good news of Jesus and baptised him immediately.

From this story I gain insight into how God wants us to be obedient to his prompting and respond to his mission. We are commissioned to spread the Good News of Christ and baptise people into his name. The challenge is to pray and understand what God has ahead for us, Listen the the holy spirits prompting,  desire to be used by God and step out in his strength. You may even find yourself encountering captives being set free and seeing people healed! 🙂

‘When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city.’

– Acts 8:6-8

An Unforgettable Spiritual Experience – On Mission

I went on a missions trip with my friends church, it was a local Pentecostal church who were doing outreach and ministering to people of the surrounding areas of their sister church overseas.

In the lead up to this trip I was asked by the senior pastor to attend a private session with him to discuss my role while overseas, he wanted to ensure I was clear on what the trip entailed and that I knew what was expected of me. I had reasonably good experiences with this church but everything started to change after attending this ‘information session’.

The senior pastor got straight to the point. He said “you’re not allowed to pray unless directed by members of our leadership group; you cannot say anything negative against the crew or the church while on mission”. I suppose I agreed with the second part, but the first had some very direct implications for my walk with God and my freedom to pray as the spirit lead.. anyway I decided to go, presuming the senior pastor was just having a bad day and didn’t really clarify what he meant be ‘cannot pray’.

During an evening prayer worship service in one of the overseas churches, while sitting quietly (crossed arms, in my ‘I’m not allowed to pray’ style posture) I noticed several of the leadership group praying for a man that appeared to be sick and was standing up, swaying slightly from left to right.

Overtime this man became quite distressed and his eyes appeared to be rolling in his head, his whole body appeared to be flustering rapidly and was clearly unwell. Several of the group leaders commenced to place their hands on him in a typical ‘push hands into head’ Pentecostal posture. After a while they retreated praying for this man and left him in the crowd, clearly they were getting worried about his physical condition and wanted to now stay clear.

Many of the other younger onlookers from our mission group became distressed at what they were seeing and did not know what to do… it was then that I was reminded of the verse ‘greater is he that is in me, that he that is in the world’ and ‘whatever you do ask for it in my name, so my Father will be glorified’.

Without even a second thought, and so ignoring the ‘lingering rules been bestowed upon me by the senior pastor’, I stood up and walked over to minister to this man. If I remember correctly I said quietly something like this ‘In the name of Jesus, may the peace that surpasses all understanding give this man rest’… the man’s posture relaxed, he refocused his eyes on me and then walked out of the building.

I learnt several lessons that day that still stick with me to this day.

1. Never let someone get in the way of the Holy Spirits prompting and Gods purpose for your life and others.

2. Never stop praying; even when someone (not matter how worldly significant) stands in between Christ and you and says ‘you cannot pray’, he is not a man of God.

3. Rely on Gods living word to give you insight into each unique situation and circumstance, the wisdom on man fails to give any ‘process or practice to deal with every situation’

I am currently reading the blog of Frank Viola his current series on the topic of Baptism of the Holy Spirit, he sheds some new light on this topic.

In seeking understanding, I suggest we put aside what we have beeen told and taught by man, and seek to discover a Truth that only comes through Christ pondering on His Word.

Enjoy these articles, be sure to read them thoroughly and in order as Frank suggests. Be very interested to hear if they challenge your views.

Marriage – If Law Formalises It, What happens Spiritually?

Marriage – If Law Formalises It, What happens Spiritually?

We attended a lovely garden wedding yesterday where two friends were married, it was a wonderful day. Its was a blessing to be involved in their special day. Before I went to sleep last night I sat and thought about the day’s proceedings and reflected on how God was involved in the ceremony. Although it was not a Christian wedding I was troubled by the words of the celebrant. Typically you hear the word ‘God’ used numerous times and prayers and blessing would usually follow, I understand and acknowledge there religious background but the thought of not involving God truly stunned me.

The Holy Spirit reminded me of this verse, Mark 10:8-9 “and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

I had a vivid vision of the “Holy Spirit sweeping down from the sky and fusing them together as they said their vows and it was very powerful. I then noticed an angel standing behind the celebrant and the newly married couple; he lifted his open hands to God and was giving Glory to God in heaven.”

My jaw dropped, I really had not considered the important role that my Father in heaven had in the ceremony. So often we see a wedding as being fashioned by the hands of man and not by God, we forget that God created this spiritual union between man and women. We truly don’t acknowledge and praise God for his involvement in the things that He originally created. I felt bad, although there was probably only a few Christians in prayer for this wonderful couple, we truly did not make him the centre and give him praise and credit for what He had done.

The Spiritual Armour, Not Physical Armour – I Pray For You Today

Today I am reminded that our battle is not with the physical and that I need to be on the ‘front-line’ and not watching from a distance..

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:12

So how do we protect ourselves against such things?

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” – Ephesians 6:13-20

Ask yourself this question; Are you taking up your armour for battle, or are you finding excuses to hide away? At one stage or another we all need to make a choice. The choice to sit still on the fence, or walk a path that has been laid out for us into eternity?

My prayer for you today:

“Lord I pray for your followers to wake up, listen and respond to their calling. Enable us to search the deep riches found in Christ Jesus and allow His Light to penetrate this dark world. Lord we know you have overcome the things of this world, and your love endures forever. May your Will be done here on earth as it is in heaven. May we open our hearts and minds to the fresh revelation from your spirit (paraclete – greek for Holy Spirit) and we a willing vessel for you to dwell. In Jesus Name. Amen”

Read Romans 8 – What is revealed to you in these versus about the Spirit?

9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. – Romans 8:9-11

Read All Romans 8 (maybe even 7 and 9 to get better context)

(Remembering that you are the temple of God and the Father – who is IN Christ now also dwells in you.) Consider the following questions in a real-world context and how it applies to your life, how are you changed by knowing and believing this?

QN-1. If Christ truely dwells and lives IN YOU, what does that mean?

QN-2. What impact does it have if Gods Spirit Lives IN YOU?

QN-3. With this revelation in mind (presence of God dwelling In You) what is stopping you living in the spirit and presence of God?

Think of it like this – Christ is a free gift (No cost to you) and The Holy Spirit is a free Gift (No cost to you) If both these gifts were sitting in front of you with your names were written on them, would you not unwrap both? Its very simple.. We accept Christ and his Salvation, but often forget His powerful Spirit and His Presence IN our lives (The person of the Holy Spirit) is still sitting in front of us wrapped and sealed up with our names on it!

Whos Spiritual Voice Was That ? – Testing All Spiritual Things Through Christ

In 1 John 4 I have gained some amazing insight into learning how to interpret Gods voice from your own, false teachers and ungodly influences. So often we think with a ‘spontanious mindset’ and dont endure in Christ through longsuffering or obedience in Him. I find myself sometimes praying and expecting the Holy Spirit to show up in my timing to do what I ask of him.. how selfish of me..

The first part of 1 John 4 speaks about ‘testing the spirits’. I frequently applied this to spiritual things in those times where God manifested himself, but today I have read this verse in a whole new light. The Holy Spirit reminded me of Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

If I consider the above verse and its implications for my daily walk IN Christ (not just with him, because He is ‘In Me!’ What-A-Christ!) I really should be looking to test all the things that cross my path. I should be alert and aware, discerning all things so I wont not be railroaded by my own thinking, false teachers and ungodly influences. Testing through prayer those things that could be of a spiritual nature or physical. So often we become too comfortable and numb in our lives, forgetting the sharpness that the readiness of the ‘living-gospel’ brings to our circumstances.

Today, be refreshed in the knowledge that “This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.” v13-16

Speak from the confidence that Christ has given us In Him, who dwells In YOU, dont speak from the viewpoint of the world. “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spiritof truth and the spirit of falsehood.” v4-6

Church – Jesus Manifesto

A quick comment on Jesus Manifesto (Book by Frank Viola)

Wow what a Jesus!! Well thats the quick summary… Jesus Christ is soo unique and special. I have discovered so much more about Jesus on Nazareth. I never truely understood the whole movement of “what would Jesus do” as it just didnt do justice to the Christ that I knew. I discovered that if we truely want to be like Christ we have to not just ‘be like him’ or ‘model ourselves in his image’ but actually realise that Christ Lives in Us! To truely know God the Father, is to know Christ… and to know Christ is to allow him to function ‘THROUGH’ you, and ‘IN’ you! Remember that Jesus is living and real… we are made ‘Alive IN Him and Through Him’….

Consider the words in Galations 2:19-21

19 “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”[e]

I just cant fathom how Christ wants us to be part of His Body.. He designed us to function togther in complete harmony and unity, through love and encouragement. It makes me feel soo unworthy knowing what the creator of the universe was willing to do… He loved us sooo unconditionally that he sacrificed himself on the alter so we may be Holy and Blameless in Gods eyes. What a Precious, Loving Saviour we have and oh how undeserving are we!

Think about this “Greater is He that is in ME, than he that is in the world”… ‘IN’ me!!! ‘IN’ me…!  He (The Holy Spirit is a living person who wants you to be activated into Gods Will, through Christ Jesus.)

Our 7 Day Fast – Holy Spirit

So we are now into our third day of fasting.. wow its going well. No meat and minimal pleasures this week… We were praying last night for “Gods Will to be done on earth as it is in heaven” and this is what happened when the Holy Spirit comforted and convicted us;

12 “A word was secretly brought to me,
my ears caught a whisper of it.
13 Amid disquieting dreams in the night,
when deep sleep falls on people,
14 fear and trembling seized me
and made all my bones shake.
15 A spirit glided past my face,
and the hair on my body stood on end.
16 It stopped,
but I could not tell what it was.
A form stood before my eyes,
   and I heard a hushed voice:   – Job 4:15

All Ican say “God is Great and we are on the right path to understanding ‘the body of christ’. God Bless.

Starting a New Year and Reimaging Organic Christianity

Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year! (soon)..

I am already thinking about my new year resolution and it in involves you guys… I want to start off the year by fasting for 7days, praying and thinking about what amazing plans God has install for us..

December 2011 has challenged, frizzled, uprooted and turned upside down my whole existence.. bring on 2012!

I was watching my daughter closely today and she was laughing and smiling, its amazing to think that another year has gone and my daughter is already 1 year old! wow!

Planning to seek God in understanding about ‘ecclesia’..

What Have I decided my visions is for 2012.. I just asked God and this is what he said to me;

Christ is going to be the centre and circumference of our study and gatherings in 2012, He will dominate our discussions and the Holy Spirit will teach us the deep truths of Gods Word. We will come together in our small groups with a revised purpose, to encourage one-another and to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to us in a fresh new way! We will focus not on our own needs, doctrinal differences or worldly desires but seek God first and invite God in our midst. We need to seek a unity that is beyond our understanding and a loving God that has a divine will for us all. We will be monitoring the fruits of the spirit in our lives and re-training our minds to think and act like Jesus.

If you wish to join Renae, Lucy and I on a 7 day fast let us know. God bless all, I am praying for you. Daniel

Ghost – Presence Of Holy Spirit

Why are so many people ‘Christians’ but live such a spirit-less life?

Its hard question to answer, I cant say I am a shining example of a ‘spirit filled person’ but im starting notice how much we all forget about God who lives within us. I was reminded in this clip how much the Holy Spirit is a real person, a part of God that is daily in our lives. I tend to lean on my own understanding rather than seeking God and allowing the Holy Spirit to help me… counsel me… refine me! I think its time for change…, are you interested in change? Have a read and watch this below.

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” Acts 19:1-3

“You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! Acts 7:51

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever… John 14:16 KJV

COUNSEL YOU.
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. John 16:13
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” Isaiah 30:21

8 When (the Spirit) comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: John 16:8

Basically we learnt to look for God ‘the Holy Spirit’ in our daily circumstances, not just presume its our conscience or our self awareness identifying the needs and wants of others. We decided in our small group that if we allow God to be more involved in our situations, and we listened more to the Holy Spirit we might start to know God more intimately. I am thinking the more we get to know the Holy Spirits groanings and directions, the closer we will be understanding how God wants to direct your walk and guide you. What a belessing it would be to understand what Gods wants you to do in each situation! It truely would be like having God directing your every move and decision.. what a wonderful hope and prayer.
