Reflecting on Worship – “In Spirit and In Truth”

Well its good to be back! It feels like its been too long since I have had time to sit down and share with you all.

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” – John 4:23-24

The Holy Spirit in me searched the meaning to this verse and I have discovered a depth to it that has brought conviction to my core. When I ponder the word ‘worship’, I usually think of a 1 hour session in church on a sunday.. or the latest hit just released by Hillsong. The fact that we have mixed ideas about ‘worship’, reflects on our diverse ways we seek Gods face and return to…

Christian Living – ‘The New Way’ (The Veil)

A new era was established when were freed from law, condemnation and suffering. Jesus did something very unique that no other prophet, person or power had never done before.. He died for a divine purpose and that purpose came at a massive cost, the ultimate sacrifice had to be made. Jesus defeated everything and fulfilled the law (through his death and resurrection) he became the life giving bread that could be consumed for eternal salvation.

Over the last few blogs I have depicted Christ as a living fragrance and a letter that unfolds through our lives, today I noticed one thing that gets in the way of people seeing Christ. The following verses speak of a ‘veil’ that exists over people because of Satan. If this insight helps us to understand the default nature of man, can we not counteract this blockage with the power of the spirit?

“But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. 15 Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.” – 2 Corinthians 3:14-15

“If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” – 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

It’s quite clear that some people will reject Christ and some will come to know Him, ultimately it’s a decision that everyone must make either by choice or death. I hope today we are reminded of the spiritual powers that we are at war with and we rely on Gods strength, not our own, to overcome these ‘veils ‘of deceit and lies of the world. If Christ has taken up residence in your life, be bold and rely on Jesus who lives in You, because we know that Christ is far greater than anything in this world.

Christian Living – ‘The New Way’ (A Letter)

“The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.” – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3

A living letter!

When we read a letter sent from someone we love, we get excited reading the words on the paper and hang on every word as it unfolds.

As I read 1 Corinthians 2 onwards I am captivated by phrases  ‘he uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere’ and ‘Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom’. These descriptions are vivid and point me directly at Christ, his passion and  the role we have as we walk with Him. We are not mouldy, damp, dusty aging letters to be hidden in an archive or old library, but a living organism where Christs living words and life can unfold.

So how do we read the letters written in God’s Word and then bring them to life in our own lives?  Christ did all the hard work for you, we know that the spirit of Christ lives in Us and is a active agent in our lives – not passive by any means. If we acknowledge that being a vessel for Christ means walking In His spirit daily, we need to let others see this fragrance!

Simply put; it means we need to let all ‘we learn from His Word and His Spirit as he ministers to us’ be something that others see IN US.

We understand that the spirit of the Living God has written his life on our hearts, we must let others see this Glory and Truth. It’s not just a role but a duty we have.. Why hide an eternal life giving hope under a rock when we can share it for the entire world to see, let’s not prevent this love and eternal hope from shining!

“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” – Matthew 5:15

Christian Living – ‘The New Way’ (A Fragrance)

“ he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?” – 2 Corinthians 2:14-16

I love the image of Christ being ‘a sweet perfume’!

When you smell something sweet and pleasant it grabs your attention, it invigorates the senses, and fuses images of the circumstances around you to your memories. When you make a decision to live and breathe Christ everything changes! When we accept what Christ has done for us (His death and resurrection) and invite him into our lives he takes up residence In Us and actively fuses His life to ours. Our decision making, our thoughts and feelings are now influenced by a life-giving spirit that has taken refuge within.

It is your default sinful nature to adhere to the world and its ways, but today be reminded that once Christ dwells in you and you acknowledge the life-giving spirit within you will be perceived very differently by people.

“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” – 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

Christ is the New Way, the old is but a shadow.
