I find it very interesting that even the demons who had possessed two men knew who Jesus was, what his purpose was and what was ahead for them. When Jesus approached the two demon possessed men they knew that the appointed time of defeat was coming and the authority Christ possessed.
When Jesus arrived on the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gadarenes, two men who were possessed by demons met him. They lived in a cemetery and were so violent that no one could go through that area. They began screaming at him, “Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time (Matthew 8:28 – 8:29 NLT)
We then learn of Jesus’ spiritual authority and influence as he approaches the fisherman by the shore;
Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind (Matthew 4:19 – 4:22 NLT)
There’s something amazingly unique about the character of Jesus, people He asked to follow Him just dropped everything and sold themselves to His cause. So what was in Him that made the demons shake in fear and men drop everything and become His disciples? Hebrews 1 gives us insight into who Jesus is.
Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven (Hebrews 1:1 – 1:3 NLT)
Christ Jesus is the exact radiance of Gods Glory! So basically, if we want to seek God, we find everything fulfilled and living in our living Christ. We know that the only way to God the Father is through his Son, and we acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour.
My breathe is taken away knowing what the future holds for followers of Christ. We know He is the same yesterday, today and forever.. If demons acknowledge that Christ has already won and are just waiting until they are judged to eternal punishment, why can’t we just rest in the Hope and Authority of Jesus. We know he can change lives and woo men with His Radiance.
Today lets just be refreshed and splendour at our amazing Christ who has taken up residence In Us!
