I dont consider myself part of any movement, a ‘way of doing christianity’, a subset of Christian culture and I dont even profess to belong to a denomination.. but I do belong to Jesus Christ!
Im reading heaps on the missional, viral, tansformational, organic, simple, decentralised, vibrant, christ-centred christian communities and im being overwhelmed by each authors perspective on how this change is going to occur. Many profess different perspectives and a multitude of influences and formulas on what the modern church will look like in 20 years, but none are truely sure how its going to look. I respect that these authors are willing to have the discussion and its awsome that we are finally having the talk about what form Church, Discipleship, Spreading the Gospel and Christ-centred living should take!
The Holy Spirit keeps bringing these verses in my mind as I ponder all this talk on renewel and revitalisation, hope these verses help as we begin this journey together:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Rom 12:2 – NIV)
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. (1 Thes 5:16-22)
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. (Ephes 2:19-22)
I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Col 1:25-27)
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:5-7)
Do these versus reveal anything to you?
